Avon Tires

Avon History

The very profitable industry of rubber products and tire producers has seen a lot of companies during the years, but not all of them survived the rough times and the tough competition. Tire producers have a evolution that is quite similar to the one of the vehicle producers, a normal thing having in mind that every vehicle present on the roads needs at least two tires.

Avon is a company that is not quite well known in Europe, but has a big tradition in the United States since 1904, the year the company was founded. It is a company that has always produced very good quality tires, somehow trying to ignore the low cost sector. Avon's strong point in producing quality tires is represented by the harsh testing procedures they are using before placing the products on the market. Also, the company invests a great deal of money in developing modern technologies and producing processes that lead to good tires, offering the regular drive a nice and comfortable driving experience.

Nowadays, the Avon brand is owned by the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, specialized in racing and especially motorcycle tires. Most motorcycle passionate appreciate this producing brand because they say it offers very good tires that are somehow exclusivist, not being known and used all over the world.

Avon Tire Technology

Despite the fact that Avon is one of the tire producers with the greatest tradition, they are not very well known in some corners of the world compared to their competitors. However, they are using their tradition and experience in order to produce some of the most competitive tires money can buy at the moment.

There are a lot of voices that state the fact that Avon probably possesses the most evolved technology used in the tire producing industry. The key element in the Avon guaranteed quality is their severe testing of every product before placing it on the market, attracting the faith of most people that are using their products. For high performance tires, it is very important that they reach the optimum temperature in order to produce the best grip and stability in every type of surface. For this, Avon is using a new silica formula that ensures rapid warm up without making the tires wear up fast. The technological process also involves using aramid fibers in order to obtain stability at high speeds, an even wear out and also improved grip during cornering maneuvers. The ES System (Enhanced Stability) reduces flexing and is considered to be one of the advantages of the Avon tires, mainly because it has a great impact on stability, tire wear in time and grip.

VP-2 Extreme Ultra High-Performance:

Pure performance road legal track tire

The ultra high-performance radial tire developed on the track for hard use both on the circuit whilst remaining road legal, the Viper Xtreme is uncompromising in its pursuit of ultimate dry surface grip and high-speed performance. The Viper Xtreme’s rubber compound is specially formulated to be both super-sticky and to reach its optimum operating temperature extremely quickly, making it ideal for track day use.

Of course, extreme grip is just part of the story. The Viper Xtreme is also designed to be very stable during hard use; its tread contour, for example, is profiled to give a large footprint when your bike’s cranked right over and also to provide confidence-inspiring handling as you flick from one side to the other. Stability is also key to the Viper Xtreme’s performance under heavy braking, while the front tire’s profile is carefully designed to reduce shimmying through the handlebars as you throttle away hard from corners.

  • Recommended for trackday use
  • Superb dry weather performance thanks to super-sticky rubber compound
  • Very quick to reach working temperature
  • Large footprint at extreme lean angles
  • Stable under hard braking
  • Track orientated profiles provide composed turning characteristics

V-2 Supersport:

Equally at home on the track and on the road

Visually identical to VP2 Sport and sharing many of the same technical features, Supersport advances by giving riders the ability to push to the next performance level to get the very best from supersport machinery.  Designed to work better with harder use, VP2 Supersport has an increased focus on maximum grip. The need for dual compound technologies is negated by utilising a race derived soft compound throughout the tyre.

Like the entire VP2 range, Supersport utilises Avon’s ES System (Enhanced Stability System) so that the stresses absorbed by the carcass, sidewall and tread pattern are distributed evenly, reducing localised flexing within the tyre’s structure. The result is an increase in grip and stability while at the same time reducing tread wear.

With LPE (Lifetime Profile Engineering) and ATAC-TA Tread Profile (Advanced Tread Arc Combination – Tri Arc), VP2 Supersport will work harder for longer as the tread profile is varied across the tyre for  enhanced handling and stability,  even  at  increased lean angles, along with consistent handling and stability for the full life of the tyre.

  • Superb performance on the road
  • Can also be used for trackdays
  • Carcass designed for excellent stability
  • High performance tread compound
  • Precise handling characteristics
  • Stable at speed

V-2 Sport:

For everyday performance road riding

The everyday road riders’ high performance tyre. VP2 Sport features Avon’s first multi-compound construction with the addition of high amounts of silica to give  increased grip -  in wet and dry conditions.  Avon’s TE (Tri-compound Extrusion) construction system produces a durable medium compound in the centre of the tyre for improved mileage returns. The benefits of Avon’s A-VBD (Advanced Variable Belt Density) system, specifically for rear tyres, is then doubled as VP2 Sport also receives a separate soft compound on the edge of the tyre to deliver high levels of grip, even from cold, when suddenly required from higher lean angles.

The third compound comes courtesy of a very soft, low hysteresis compound across the entire base of the tread. Under such incredible forces from modern performance machines, this helps to improve the bond between the other two compounds and the carcass.  Avon’s Hybrid Belt system, combined with other advanced construction features, creates an intelligent tyre with a contact patch that grows with increased lean angle and offers precise handling characteristics and consistent stability throughout the tyre’s life.

  • Superb performance on the road –  in wet and dry conditions
  • Multiple compound tread
  • Precise handling characteristics
  • Carcass designed for excellent stability
  • Stable at speed – throughout the tyre’s life
  • Can also be used for track days
